Game collecting while raising a family

The second most common type of family is the Blended Family, which is a family group created by remarriage that includes step-parents or step-siblings or both. Parenting or child rearing promotes and supports the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood.Parenting refers to the intricacies of raising a child and not exclusively for a biological relationship. The most common caretaker in parenting is the father or mother, or both, the biological parents of the child in question. Raising your own beef is huge! To make sure you and your family get the best eating experience and make the best use of that beautiful steer you are raising, you’ll need to have him butchered at the right time. ... While this sort of a ration would be fine for a pig or a chicken, it is a disaster in the making for your steer. While you'll likely encounter many challenges along the way, raising a strong-willed child can also be an exciting adventure. Refusing to Comply Don’t waste your energy trying to convince a strong-willed child to do something they don’t want to do. Joining an autism family support group is a great way to meet and form friendships with other people in similar situations to yours. It can also give your typically developing children the opportunity to get to know other siblings of autistic children. Family Life is Important for Kid’s Mental Health and Adjustment All parents have the goal of raising happy, healthy, well-adjusted children. For those of you with spouses and children, I’m curious as to how game collecting intersects with your family’s lives. Do you go to garage sales with your kids? Is your spouse supportive of your collection? Do you have your own space in the house for your collection? I see some people selling off their collections on different sites stating that they’re doing it to support their family, and it makes me a little sad.

2021.10.23 01:40 likepeaches Should I make my girlfriend go to therapy?

I've (25F) been seeing this girl (23F) for several months now. She has pretty severe depression that comes and goes. She typically blames her meds when she isn't doing well and has changed prescriptions/upped the dosage several times. She's been dealing with depression for a long time, well before we met, and for the most part has handled it. She's been to therapy in the past and it went well, but now she's reluctant to start again saying that the intake process is too much work. I've never really had therapy so I don't know what that looks like.
She really wants to make our relationship official, which I think I want to as well, but I'm worried she'll never get therapy which I think she needs. I'm considering refusing to go out with her unless she agrees to start seeing someone, but I also don't want to come off like I don't trust her to deal with her own mental health and like I know what she needs more than she does. I don't think she'd take it this way, but I'm not sure and it can be a touchy subject for her. What should I do?
Also: I made a joking comment over text that I wouldn't date her unless she gets therapy and she started looking for therapists that night, but never moved on it.
TLDR: I'm considering telling the girl I'm seeing that I won't date her unless she gets therapy, but I'm worried this will seem like I don't trust her to take care of herself.

2021.10.23 01:40 randomkiera How to set boundaries when "its not your house"?

I've been struggling the last couple of years with my sense of independence and feeling like my home and/our boundaries aren't "respected" by my grandmother. I'll try to summarize as coherently as I can, for context:
My brother (27M) and I (33F) currently live in a house owned by my grandparents (who live in another city), for the longest time it was a family home (so any of their four children, their spouses end eventually grandchildren could use it for whatever reason they needed).
I started living here on my own around the end of my first year of university at about 18-19y old -(my brother moved in probably around 6-7y after me), since I was the only grandchild that was using the house I got defaulted as the administrator. This meant I was responsible for the bills (with my parents exclusively footing this bills) and maintenance (paid by my grandparents, but I was responsible for overseeing it, making appointments, etc.). As time passed I started to have some minor issues regarding things like decorations, furniture, wall color and such since my grandmother would ask for my input since "you live in the house" but then would dismiss it as it wasn't her taste... which fair, but still a bit annoying you would ask for my opinion every time only to never actually consider it. I was also particularly annoyed by the fact that she wouldn't let me throw anything away (there where many thing from when my mother and her siblings where in university, old linens no longer being used, older kitchen appliances that had been replaced, older tableware, etc.) combined with the fact that everything that she no longer wanted in her main home would be defaulted to the house I lived (again, I can understand not looking at the gifted horse mouth but if I specifically tell you I don't need/want something it shouldn't be pushed onto me just because its "still good").
My brother and I had slowly started to feel uncomfortable living here since it was both our house but not our house depending on what was convenient at the time: big electricity bill because it was summer and they came visit and never turned of the AC? Our house. Choosing the color you were gonna paint your bedroom? Their house. I would get questioned about thing like why I chose to reorganize the pantry, relocate the tableware or cutlery... things you wouldn't ask the person running the household and actually living on it... I get it, it not how YOU do it at YOUR HOME... but this is essentially MY HOME in practical terms.
It reached a critical point when I was around 26-27y when one of my uncle started brining his toddler every weekend as part a custody agreement (since this is still "the family home"), this evolved into the house slowly being invaded by more and more toys brought in by our uncle and grandparents we asked to keep them to a minimum or at least contained to no avail. My parents essentially told us to bare and grin it since this was "everyone's home" and when asked if given the new circumstances my grandparents were gonna pitch in with a percentage of the utilities I was promptly shut down and called disrespectful/ungrateful.
I moved away when I was 30 continue some postgraduate education and just returned after three years of being FULLY independent (living on my own, paying my own rent and not requiring any sort of financial support from my family). Unfortunately at the moment given both my brother's and my financial/employment situation we can't afford to move out (or at least wouldn't be the smart money choice). I keep butting head with my grandmother when she comes stay, since she wants things done her way and won't even attempt to compromise or meet my brother and I half way on how we run the house, I've asked my parents for advice but they don't want to get involved since they don't want to "fight" with my grandmother.
I'm open to suggestions, advices or any wisdom you can share with me in this kind of situations!

2021.10.23 01:40 sol1loqu1st I must be the only person who actually WANTS to be a pharmacy tech, but...

No one in my store seems to be willing to train me. I've done everything I can on my end -- I've gotten certified, done all the elearnings, I help out in the pharmacy on a lot of my shifts when they need it, etc. -- but there are parts of the job (mostly computer related) no one has even tried to train me on, and my SM is refusing to hire me as a tech. I know for a fact we're desperate for techs, I have a really good work ethic, I haven't called out sick once since went full time, and they're always really grateful when I help out. I get a lot of comments from the techs and pharmacists that I learn really fast and they want me to join them full time. What's the issue, then? Why won't my SM actually schedule me to train in the pharmacy?
(And yes, I am aware of how stressful the job is. I've done enough pharmacy shifts to at least understand that, lol. Still want to do it)

2021.10.23 01:40 AwayWithYouSwine Playing TLOU and TLOU2 both for the first time, back to back.

I'm currently playing through TLOU for the first time, and I plan on playing through TLOU2 as soon as I beat TLOU. I've heard some of the criticism of TLOU2, and some of the praise for it, but I'm looking at both games in my own way. I think that playing both games blind back to back will give me the best possibility of comparing both games fairly.
If anyone wants me to update my post with my thoughts on both games after I finish them then let me know in the comments, and I will do exactly that!

2021.10.23 01:40 aid_ Saved for posterity from /tjcrew

Disclaimer. This is going to be a long post. I am not a "Union Rep" I am a long-time Southern California crew member with ties to the corporate office. I have been with the company for over 25 years and have a unique perspective as to where the company has been and is going.
This post is going to be as Pro-Union as it gets.
What Trader Joe's used to be.
Trader Joe's is a great place to work. I think we can mostly all agree on that. Our experiences probably vary and that is normal. But overall we all love what Trader Joe's represents and respect the image it projects. When I got hired over 25 years ago, Trader Joe's was known for treating its employees very well. We had autonomy, great pay, career advancement opportunities, wonderful healthcare. Management was mostly Male, as the physical part of the job outweighed the "customer experience".
Raises were every 3 months, up to 2 dollars per raise. I'm not kidding. Trader Joe's was the gold, platinum standard for grocery retail. No one could compete with that. TJ's contributed to our 401k and we had a much larger Xmas bonus. There used to be a special incentive called "The Double Bubble" where if you were an outstanding crew member you were eligible for a raise, twice. No joke.
This obviously isn't the case anymore. But why?
What caused Trader Joe's to get rid of all of these perks and benefits?
I have a few guesses, but to be honest it's probably the fault of one person.
Dan Bane. A servant of Billionaires took for John Shields. I really don't have much to say past that because I'm sure John Shields was also a servant of Billionares. But things started to go downhill for Crew sometime in 2005, about 4 years after Shields stepped down.
What have Trader Joe's employees lost in the past 20 years under Dan Bane?
Well, This is all off the top of my head but here we go.
• 2 Dollar raises every 3 months reduced to .50 cent raises every 6 months.
• An increase in health insurance premiums while we experienced a decrease in coverage across Dental, Vision, and Health Plans.
• In September 2013, in response to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Trader Joe's stated that it would require part-time employees to work an average of 30 hours per week in order to qualify for medical insurance (with free coverage for basic dental and vision care still being available for all crew members who work an average of 15 hours or more per week). Part-time employees who were not qualifying for medical insurance would now be eligible for plans which were available under the ACA (but they would only be made available to those employees whose employers do not offer them an insurance plan). Those employees who were working full-time were unaffected.
• Our crew incentive of a double raise (The double bubble) was taken away and replaced with a 50% taxed bonus of 500 dollars. The raise was forever, the bonus is a one-time thing. At the time of Corporate taking the double bubble away, they blamed it on the Crew, saying it was due to negative feedback. What an absolute Joke.
• Overtime for employees being denied and I think Mate overtime reduced (for the purpose of "work-life balance" This excuse has merit except for the fact that they don't give their employees any choice in the matter.
• The handbook being "ninja-edited" to release them of the fact that they may or may not contribute to our 401k plan.
• Our Christmas bonus is severely reduced.
• If anyone can remember anything else, I will gladly add it to the list.
If they are taking these things away, that means the company isn't doing well right?
Well, In 2004, BusinessWeek reported that Trader Joe's quintupled its number of stores between 1990 and 2001 and increased its profits tenfold.
In February 2008, BusinessWeek reported that the company had the highest sales per square foot of any grocer in the United States. Two-and-a-half years later and in 2016, Fortune) magazine estimated sales to be $1,750 in merchandise per square foot—more than double the sales generated by Whole Foods.
Trader Joe's, according to my good friend, has the highest profit margins of ANY major retail grocery store. Safeway for example has a profit margin of 2 to 3 percent. Trader Joe's net profit margin is in the 10 percent range.
So what is going on?
Trader Joe's employees are the proverbial frog in a pot of water. And the heat has been turned up. The water is starting to boil.
I hear Unions are bad, I have to pay dues, and a lot of grocery union employees don't make as much as me. Why would I want a Union?
What many disingenuous or uniformed "anti-union" people fail to mention, is that every contract a Union has with an employer is different.
A Union is there to protect what you already have, and make sure you are protected in the future.
If you have been with the company for as long as I have, you see the writing on the wall. You have seen Corporate expand and grow while they slash our pay and benefits.
If we were to Unionize, of course, concessions would have to be made. There would be strikes, arbitration hearings, and a lot of other red tape involved. It isn't all roses on the other side, that is for sure.
In my other post, I linked a union contract after a poster responded to me about what union they used to work at and why it was a horrible experience. Here it is again for you to view. https://ufcw324.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Albertsons-Vons-2019-2022.pdf
It is a lot to read, but can you imagine negotiating a contract from a point of where we are now? We know this company is making money hand over fist and can afford to pay us what we deserve.
The Union will fight for you to keep what you and, take some of the power away from the corporation, and give you an actual voice on the direction you want the company to take regarding compensation for its employees.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Food_and_Commercial_Workers
This is a wiki link to UFCW. If you have the time, I suggest you educate yourself on the past and what they had to fight for in order to secure their future. This is just an introductory link of a much larger rabbit hole.
How can we trust that Trader Joe's has our best interests at heart when they continue to cut pay and benefits while opening more stores and expanding corporate overreach?
You can't. Plain in simple. Trader Joe's says one thing and does another. They use smart language and psychology to soothe us and make us docile, and sometimes they sent out "Anti-Union" propaganda letters from Dan Bane himself to scare us into submission.
You will see a lot of "false equivalency" arguments made by these people saying things like...
"In 2018, pay at this grocery store was 12.20 and max pay was 15.50. Ouch!"
When in actuality, their pay and raise structure is comparable to what we have now. And that is even besides the point because ....
If we wait too long to unionize, we will be negotiating at a point in time where additional benefits and pay cuts have been realized.
Trader Joe's will push the envelope to protect themselves from Unionization because what we have right now is still extraordinary considering.
How do they protect themselves from Unionization?
• By continuing to slash benefits and wages so if and or when Unionization happens they are negotiating from a lower cost to themselves.
• By sending out scary letters from Dan Bane that literally threaten crew members from speaking up.
• By patrolling this SubReddit to monitor discussion and sow discourse and spread misinformation

What can Trader Joe's employees do?
Well, the answer to that isn't simple. You need to organize, get in contact with Union Reps, and most importantly...
Speak Truth to Power.
Trader Joe's can fire you without cause for any reason in most states within the United States of America. But if they fire you without cause, you are entitled to unemployment.
Trader Joe's hates to pay unemployment. That's why those bad crew members no one likes are being kept on until Trader Joe's has cause to fire them. It's part of why their profit margins are so large.
I will not entertain any more bad faith discussions.
I will however respond to people who ask questions I believe to be in good faith.
1.) What was grocery pay like before unions stepped in?
2.) Why does Trader Joe's continue to open new stores while slashing pay and benefits slowly over the past 15 years?
3.) How much money have we lost because of these pay and benefit costs?
4.) What else are they going to cut in the future?
